The Mill Fire destroyed dozens of homes and decimated thousands of acres. It originated at the Roseburg Forest Products Mill in Weed, California. Roseburg suspects that its machinery failed and likely caused the Mill Fire. Since the 1980’s Roseburg has operated the veneer mill including an on-site power plant. Roseburg has faced complaints about their operational practices. Roseburg is investigating whether the possible failure of a water-spraying machine led to the ignition of the fire. Its public relations spokesperson said Roseburg had yet to “determine if the machine was working properly.”
Machines should be operated in safe manner or be shut down when they aren’t safe. It appears that Roseburg failed to do that on September 2, 2022, and Roseburg and any other wrongdoers should be held accountable for the damage caused by the Mill Fire.
We hold wrongdoers accountable. Following fires that have scorched more than one million total acres, we have represented renters, landlords, homeowners, and business owners. They include family members of those killed. And they include those injured as they flee wildfires.
